LA: The LV Way!
During awards season, I travel to LA a few times a month and in the “off” season you can usually find me there at least once a month so LA has sort of become my home away from home. I love spending time working there, visiting my bestie and of course discovering everything LALA land has to offer.
When I’m in NYC, it’s always go go go, but in LA, I’m able to find a better work / life balance and that means being more mindful, eating cleaner, and working out more. Occasionally, I even wake up extra early for a Pilates class or a Runyon Canyon hike. It’s one of my favorites and the view never gets old. Local tip if it’s your first time - don’t drive! There’s never enough parking so UBER there to avoid any parking fiascos.
After an early start, I love to stop by Alfred Coffee in Studio City to grab an iced green tea, right before heading into NBC. My co-workers introduced me to this amazing spot and let me tell you … the hype is real! And even if you’re not in LA, Alfred’s has your back! There are several locations in Tokyo, Austin, TX, and Japan. So if you’re a total coffee lover like most of LA (or even a tea gal like me), don’t forget to add this to your coffee bucket list. And, not to mention, the atmosphere is always so chill and inviting, which makes for the perfect story for the gram!
Having spent so much time in LA, I always get DM’s about where to take photos in LA. You can’t go wrong with the Downtown LA area, the Pink Wall at Paul Smith’s Melrose Avenue boutique or by the Venice street sign… there are endless cool spots around town and I love switching it up, but I always make sure to grab photo with those beautiful LA palm trees in the background.
Speaking of Venice — shopping on Abbott Kinney is a personal favorite. There are so many cute boutiques and stores that you need to check out like Cuyana, Avocado and Hourglass Cosmetics! Not to mention, the laid back beach vibes in Venice make it the way to spend a relaxing day off!
Now if all that shopping helps you work up an appetite, stop by The Butcher’s Daughter for a quick bite. It’s a must-eat in New York, but in LA it’s a must-eat and see. The decor’s everything I love about West Coast style and I’ve been (this) close to stealing those famous tie-dye pillows! ;) Order the Kale Cesar salad with one of their fresh juices for the best mid-day meal.
Another thing I always love to do while I’m in LA is shop vintage. That being said, my favorite spot is What Goes Around Comes Around in Beverly Hills. I promise you’ll walk out with the perfect vintage gem.
One thing I’ve learned, vintage sizing is complex and all over the spectrum. The items are specific to dates and designers so if you find something you like, don’t trust the size on the label. You have to try-on! Most of us don’t have hours to spend trying on options in a vintage store, so instead of shopping for vintage clothes, focus your trip on accessories that can totally change up your outfit, whether it be a classic pin, statement belt or bold earrings.
Before any LA trip comes to an end, I make it a habit to grab drinks or dinner at Ysabel! I love the always changing menu and the drinks never disappoint. Oh, and it’s GORGEOUS… just checkout their IG: @ysabelwesthollywood.
But if you’re looking to chow down (and I often am by the end of trip to LA), Little Dom’s is your spot. I usually order the Pizza Margherita or the Chicken Parmesan. Total carb overload, but worth every bite!
Now I’d love to know, what are your LA staples?
